Unknown Worlds Entertainment has officially pulled back the curtain on Subnautica 2. Setting sail for an entirely new alien oceanic planet, the highly anticipated sequel introduces the number one feature fans have demanded for years: optional 1-to-4 player cooperative multiplayer.
Diving Together into an Uncharted Alien Ocean
While the first two games were solitary journeys that emphasized deep-sea isolation, Subnautica 2 is built from the ground up to support both solitary exploration and seamless squad co-op. You and three friends can crew a multi-room submarine, divide resource-gathering expeditions, and build interconnected underwater seafloor research bases.
The developers have emphasized that co-op is completely optional—the chilling atmosphere, thalassophobia, and mystery of discovering gargantuan Leviathans remains fully intact for solo divers.
- Four-Player Cooperative Survival: Explore, construct habitats, and pilot multi-crew submersible vessels together with full cross-play.
- An Entirely New Alien Planet: Leaves Planet 4546B behind for a brand-new oceanic world with unique ecosystems and hydrothermal trenches.
- Unreal Engine 5 Water Physics: Volumetric bioluminescent water lighting, physical currents, and dynamic underwater weather systems.
Submersible Vessel Classes & Crew Roles in Co-Op
Multi-crew navigation introduces exciting division of labor inside deep-sea submersibles:
| Vessel Type | Crew Capacity | Specialized Station | Primary Deep-Sea Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seamoth Mk II | 1-2 Divers | Forward Sonar & Torpedo Array | Fast scouting and narrow cavern cave diving |
| PRAWN Exosuit | 1 Pilot | Drill Arm & Propulsion Grapple | Heavy seabed mining and Leviathan defense |
| Cyclops Titan Sub | 3-4 Crew | Helm, Engine Overcharge & Sonar Radar | Mobile floating base station and long-range expeditionary vessel |
“Subnautica 2 is not a games-as-a-service title. It is an authentic underwater exploration survival game that you can experience with your closest friends.”
Thalassophobia and Next-Gen Sound Design
Audio is half the terror in Subnautica. Hearing a distant, deep-bass Leviathan roar echo through 500 meters of black ocean water before the creature appears on your forward sonar will test the nerves of even the bravest players.
Coming to Xbox Game Pass
Subnautica 2 will launch in Early Access with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass for Xbox Series X|S and PC. Check your oxygen tanks and prepare to dive deep.
