Eight years after launch, Hello Games continues to astonish the industry. The No Man’s Sky Worlds Part 1 (5.0) update rewrites the game’s core graphics engine from the ground up, introducing breathtaking volumetric clouds, screen-space water wave simulation, and majestic Avatar-style floating islands.

A Complete Rendering Pipeline Transformation

Sean Murray and the small Guildford studio have completely overhauled how light, atmosphere, and terrain interact. Oceans are no longer flat textures; they feature true physical waves that crest, foam, and toss your starship or exocraft around during intense ocean storms.

Wind systems have been fully physicalized, causing lush fields of bioluminescent alien grass, towering fungal stalks, and storm clouds to bend and billow dynamically as weather fronts roll across planetary continents.

  • Floating Sky Islands: Massive celestial landmasses suspended in the upper atmosphere, featuring waterfalls tumbling into empty sky.
  • Screen-Space Water Reflections: Oceans and lakes dynamically reflect storm skies, alien sunsets, and starship exhaust contrails.
  • Liquidators Expedition: Join a galactic community effort to exterminate colossal subterranean insectoid hive queens.

Worlds Part 1 Visual & Atmospheric Upgrades

The 5.0 overhaul touches nearly every biome in the procedurally generated universe:

“Worlds Part 1 is the kind of update we've dreamed of making since day one. It makes the universe feel wild, fresh, and alien all over again.”

Building Sky Bases Among the Clouds

Players can land their starships directly atop these newly generated floating islands, anchoring colossal base stations that look out across planetary horizons. Building a glass viewing dome over a 10,000-foot drop is the ultimate sci-fi flex.
