Blizzard Entertainment has expanded the grim world of Sanctuary with Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred. Journeying southward into the dense, suffocating jungles of Nahantu, the expansion introduces the Spiritborn—a fluid, martial arts archetype that channels primal spirit guardians in blinding flurries of elemental devastation.
Channeling the Four Spirit Guardians of Nahantu
The Spiritborn is the most agile combat class ever designed in Diablo history. Rooted in the ancient traditions of the Spirit Realm, the class allows players to attune to four distinct animal guardians: the Jaguar, the Gorilla, the Eagle, and the Centipede.
By blending primary and secondary guardian affinities via the Spirit Hall mechanic, you can tailor your warrior for hyper-fast mobility, impenetrable barrier defense, or decaying poison procs.
- The Jaguar Guardian: Unleashes rapid multi-strike claws with ramping attack speed and fiery frenzy mechanics.
- The Gorilla Guardian: Focuses on crushing physical kinetic impacts, barrier generation, and thorns damage reflection.
- The Eagle Guardian: Channels pinpoint storm lightning, vulnerability marks, and high-velocity dash strikes.
- The Centipede Guardian: Drains enemy lifeforce through expanding toxic venom pools and crowd-controlling fear debuffs.
Spiritborn Guardian Affinities and Synergies
The Spirit Hall system allows you to select a Primary and Secondary Guardian to augment all class abilities:
| Guardian Spirit | Primary Aspect Bonus | Secondary Aspect Bonus | Ideal Stat Focus |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jaguar (Fire) | Every 4th skill triggers bonus fire slashes | Kills grant stacking attack speed buffs | Dexterity / Critical Strike |
| Gorilla (Earth) | All skills grant Unstoppable and Fortify | Reflects 100% of damage taken as Thorns | Strength / Maximum Life |
| Eagle (Lightning) | Evade casts storm feathers that inflict Vulnerable | Critical strikes generate movement speed | Dexterity / Movement Speed |
| Centipede (Poison) | Hits apply stacking poison that reduces enemy damage | Heals 1% max life per poisoned target | Intelligence / Damage Over Time |
“The Spiritborn feels lightning fast. We wanted a class that completely breaks the mold of traditional Diablo archetypes while honoring Nahantu's lore.”
The Return of Runewords and Mercenary Companions
Vessel of Hatred also marks the long-awaited return of Runewords, allowing players to socket Ritual and Invocation runes into two-socket gear to trigger other classes' abilities—such as a Spiritborn casting Sorcerer teleport or Barbarian warcries.
Play Diablo IV on Xbox Game Pass
