Rare is flipping pirate warfare on its head with Sea of Thieves Season 14. Long celebrated for loud, thunderous cannon broadsides, this update equips scallywags with a covert sandbox of stealth mechanics—including crouching, camouflage magic, hanging from ship hulls, and the versatile blowpipe.

Sneaking Aboard: Crouching and Disguise Magic

For the first time in game history, pirates can crouch. Crouching completely muffles footstep audio and hides your gamertag from enemy vision, allowing skilled tuckers to slink around enemy galleons undetected.

Even more devious is the new Disguise system. Pirates can magically transform themselves into harmless treasure chests, barrels, or gunpowder kegs, sitting innocently in an enemy captain's quarters while waiting for the perfect moment to strike.

  • Crouching & Ladder Hanging: Muffle footsteps, suppress gamertags, and hang stealthily from the exterior hull ladders of rival vessels.
  • The Blowpipe Weapon: Fire sleep darts to incapacitate helmsmen, lure darts to redirect skeletons, or poison darts for DoT damage.
  • Grapple Gun Boarding: Launch zipline ropes to board speeding sloops or scale sea fort battlements from the water.

“Season 14 is all about mischievous player stories. Giving players the tools to play as sneaky saboteurs completely refreshes our sandbox.”

The Trap-Setting Meta

Players can also craft and plant spring-loaded spike traps on island beaches or ship choke points. Luring an enemy boarding party into a hidden tripwire explosive is the ultimate pirate satisfaction.
